Secure Mobile Disaster Recovery

Our IT administrators carry laptops that allow them to ensure business continuity in the event of a disaster. The company’s data security policies prohibit corporate data from residing on non-company’s hardware.

Loss of laptops leads to financial losses. Therefore, we need to create a highly secure disaster recovery and business resumption solution for IT administrators in a highly mobile form factor.

Please suggest a solution.

If you purchase an external hard disk with the company agreement then you can backup the entire laptop drive to the external disk by a dd command to safeguard against loss of coporate data.

Such disk will be good enough as a readily replacement unit for substituting the one inside the laptop in the event of a total loss of original data.

The only draw back is the backup will be long for first time if the whole disk is cloned but in subsequent back-ups you should be able to update the changed files only.

Colocate in a datacenter for backup/DR, or cooperate with a second company to provide colo services for each other on both ends.
