2WIRE 2701hg-b wireless enabled how?

I have the cheapest AT&T DSL system. It has a 2wire 2701HG-B modem, which includes wireless.

I finally got my laptop working on wireless with Kubuntu 7.04 a while back. On D-link and linksys systems I encountered on my trip it worked perfectly.

At home with this 2-wire modem it could see the network but could not connect, no matter what I tried, and part of that was the Wireless Assistant that worked on the other systems.

My son-in-law suggested I do a hard reset to default, by pressing the reset button. I did and now wireless is dead.

He suggested that default is wireless-off, and that somehow I need to get into the set-up screen, which I have done, and enable it, but I don't see anything that indicates turn-on/turn-off wireless. Is this common on modems?

I am going to dig, some hits on Google imply I should have received a manual, but I cannot find it now. Thanks for any advice.
