Hello,
I have an NEC 19in CRT and a newly installed Redhat 9. I am torn between 1024x768 and 1280x1024. I like Mozilla at the bigger res, becasue I can leave the sidebar open and not have to horizontally scroll webpages, but sometimes text is too small to read.
Also I like to watch a lot of video, is one better than the other?
Anyway, what do you use?

To make the text in mozilla larger go to View ==> Text Zoom ==> 120%.

I use 1280x1024. I like a lot of screen real estate. But my take on it is that you should use as high a resolution as you can, and still be able to read everything.
As for Mozilla, just use Ctrl + (the plus key) to make the text larger. I usually have to do it once or twice whenever I surf the net.

In mozilla, just press CTRL /(+ or -) and it will enlarge or diminish the size of the text as hop-frog said and you don't need to go through the hassle of pulling down menus as well.
I have a 21" monitor and I use the 1024 X 768 resolution. That works great for me. If you have trouble selecting between the two, you can run Xconfigurator as root in a virtual console (CTRL/ALT/F2) and you may select as many resolutions as you want. To return to your Xsession, just press CTRL/F7. After rebooting, you will have the ability to choose between the resolutions you selected by simply pressing CTRL/ALT/(+ or -) while in the middle of a session. You do not even need to log out.
The only problem I have with multiple resolution sessions is that depending on which resolution the Xserver normalizes to (probably the highest), if you decrease the resolution by pressing CTRL/- part of the screen resides outside of the physical screen and you need to drag the cursor in order to scroll into these (invisible) parts of the screen. I don't understand why it does this, and I believe there should be a way around it, but haven't figured it out yet. Nevertheless, it is still worth your time to investigate multiple resolution sessions for your monitor. You may not encounter the same situation as I have.

I tend to use 1024x768 on everything. I have a 19" NEC monitor for my desktops, a 17" monitor at work, and a 15" LCD on my laptop. I've tried 1280x9-- and 1280x1024, and it just makes everything too small to see comfortably. Of course, I'm only 27 and need reading glasses, so don't take my word for it.
I don't have a 19in monitor, but I would use 1600x1200. I'm using a 17in with 1280x1024.

I use 1280x1024 on my 19 inch. I recommend you use that too.
