Hardware: (2) boxes; One running XP Pro, the other running RedHat 9 with KDE. KDE was installed with just about every option, and I've left it bone stock, with the addition of all the updates. The mouse is a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer, USB adapted to serial.

I've got one of those KVM (sp?) thingys in between them so I only need to use my one keyboard and mouse.

I should note that everything worked wonderful on both boxes for months...

Now, and I can't remember if I installed anything or changes anything on the Linux box, the mouse won't respond on the Linux box, but is fine on the XP box.

I removed the mouse from the KVM thingy, and plugged directly into the Linux box. After a reboot, still no response from the mouse, which leads me to believe the mouse and KVM thing are working fine.

Now, being a newbie to Linux, all I know is that ALT+F1 will bring up the menu, and going into the System Setting and choosing mouse doesn't get me far either... Using the arrows, tab, spacebar and enter, I can only choose the Microsoft Mouse(s), which I feel should be correct, as I've done that before and it worked wonderful. I can't seem to navigate the selection into the "Generic" area just to see if it helps...

Any idea's as to why this is all happening? I though fawlty motherboard, and if it comes to that, I'll throw in Win2K to make sure... then come back to Linux.

Thanks!

I've had Redhat's hardware detection utility (kudzu) ocassionally decide to reset my mouse entry in XF86Config-4 every once in a while. I don't know if version 9 still uses kudzu, but it might be worth looking in to. What do you have for the mouse entry in the "pointers" section of your X config file? When the mouse goes wonky, does that entry change?
