I've searched through all the previous responses on this question, and nothing seems to work. I was browseing old software and picked up the prboom RPM and installed it. I seems to be there (under /usr/games), but doesn't show up on the KDE panel. I also can't run it no matter WHAT I try. I've added it to my path, cd to /usr/games and type "prboom" and ". prboom". Even tried browseing to it with Konqueror and running it...it just doesn't want to play nice :)... anyone else ever run into this or have any ideas?

Care to post the error messages you get when trying to start it from its directory using the command './prboom' (without the quotes)?

Cheers :)

PRBOOM was a pain for me -- I installed from RPM and shifted my WADs into the designated folders and went through various other ordeals, then in the end it ran like ****e.

An easy answer might be simply to try DOOM Legacy if you haven't already. I used to run it on my Windows laptop with some spiffy OpenGL enhancements that really brings DOOM into the new century, while retaining the Doom legacy (as the name suggests.) Haven't tried OpenGL in the Linux version, but even the software renderer adds transperancies, decals, to say the least for enhanced resolutions. Also, it's as simple to install as unzipping/tarring somewhere in your home directory (the fact that it's not a system-wide has some advantages.)

Actually seems the WAD files were the problem...then finding ones that would work w/ PRBOOM....will try the legacy Doom. Did attempt UT2003 demo...doesn't seem my old 500mhz system has the huevos for it :) thanx for the info... I'll give that a shot.
