I have the opportunity to get Linux+ certified, but I don't know if it's any good. I only know the RHCE cert.

Anyone Linux+ certified around here who can tell me if it's worth spending money on?

I've heard it's good. Certcities.com ranked it pretty high, but the RHCE is a lot harder to get so probably looks better than the Linux+. Either way, Linux+ is pretty cheap and it shows that you at least know how to use Linux. I saw a thread a couple weeks ago where people who actually knew what they were talking about commented on it. You might try a search to see if you can find it.

I'm a poor student, after I pay for my CCNA cert, I'm even more poor.

I bought the RHCE book, but the exam is quite expensive, 10.000 DKR ~ 1500 USD

Way too rich for my blood.

The cert won't get you a job, if that's what you mean, but it might help get your foot in the door somewhere. It seems like Comptia didn't have enought genuine Linux questions so they added a little filler, a number of the questions are regarding basic TCP/IP networking and hardware.

I am hoping that Linux+ and CCNA will land me a job. Maybe spice it up with a few MCP certs or the full MCSE

Yeah, but you have to know that stuff since any job requiring Linux knowledge will almost definitely require networking knowledge as well...since Linux was designed to be used as a network-based OS. I think it was pretty necessary to include that; and from what I understand, the RHCE doesn't cover any less networking than Linux+.

Either way, I agree that the Linux+ won't get you a job by itself. The Cisco certs and MS certs may, but that Linux+ is so cheap you might as well get it and it'll at least show you know the basics of Linux. You might check out certcities.com to see what they say about MS certs...a lot of them are really hard and costly, and may be useless pretty soon (depending on the specific cert you get). I think that a CCNP/Linux+ will give you a lot better shot at a good job than the CCNA/Linux+ if you plan to stay away from MS certs entirely. Then again, good old-fashioned experience does just as much good, if not more, than a cert in this job market (or so I've been told by EVERYONE at work).
