hi. i am facing a rather strange problem, i have 2 operating systems on my computer, windows and linux and have 3 windows partitions and 1 linux partitions. In one of my windows partitions ive got a collection of mp3 files. I tried accessing them by goin to /mnt/win_d . the problem am facing is the extension of the files are (.mp?) and they never work when i double click on them. so i tried moving one of my files into my linux drive and renamed it into (.mp3) and it worked. what is the solution for my problem without moving and renaming those files? thx

What distribution of Linux are you using? (example: Mandrake 8.2). The distro and version number please. Also, are you using Gnome or KDE?

OK, check your "Control Center", goto "File Browsing" and then "File Associations".
Click "Add" and make a new entry named mp? in "audio" (or in whatever group you want). The highlight the group and click Add under "filename patterns". Add .mp?.
Then hit "add" again under "application preference order". Browse to xmms.
Now, the syntax might be a bit different in your version of Mandrake Linux, but the "File Association" tool is what you want to use.
