Tuxracer won't start for me when I'm logged in as user, but will for root. Any ideas?

I'm running mandrake 9.1, recently installed (appx two weeks) but this has been happening for the last four-five days.

Thanks

Error messages?

Start it from a terminal (with tuxracer) and tell us what it says.

Also, which video card are you using? Have you done anything special with drivers? (not all video cards need something done with drivers, so whether this is good or not depends on the first question, which card)

This is rich...

no error messages, took your advice and typed tuxracer in the shell, and it told me exactly why it wasn't working (or mor accurately, where to go look) Turns out the nvidia driver I installed last week changed some of the permissions (don't know why I didn't think of that one--I'm still getting the windows worked out of my mind:D
So it gives directions, I follow, at least I thought, because now I can't log in as a user to the computer at all, just as root! HAHA Oh well, I guess that is the price for an education. Anyways, here's what I did...
two commands:
chmod 0666 /dev/nvidia*
then
chown root /dev/nvidia*
I know very little of the commands so far, so please help!

You did that, and now you can't log in?

That shouldn't be related to your login permissions... umm... is there anything else that got changed since the last time you logged in successfully? What error are you getting when you try to log in?
