i installed WineX 2.x from www.freshrpms.net (apt-get)....

i installed Quake III Arena using WineX and got it running. Although i face a couple of problems.

1. There is considerable delay in mouse movements. Kind of a Lag basically.

2. Although the game runs with sound and everything, the quality of the sound is inferior. i get an error in the terminal saying "Please configure Wine Multimedia Modules"... "can't find WinMM in config"...something like that.

any ideas?

Yes, just install the latest Linux point release off Id's site, and copy the .pk3 files from your Windows installation.

Make sure you use point release 1.32b, as earlier ones had major issues with the mouse.

I got the linux binaries and it works great!! i was totally blown by its performance....it was better than the WineX version and definately better than Windows!!!

Have only ID done the smart move of releasing linux binaries for free or are the other companies shifting to the same ground?

for eg. medal of honour....grand theft auto III etc. etc.

id has been a big supporter of Linux, in fact Doom 3 will be available for Linux at the same time as the Windows version (hopefully on the same CDs)

Unreal Tournament was ported by Loki and you can download the installer for it

Unreal Tournament 2003 ships with a Linux installer on disk 3.

Neverwinter Nights has a Linux version that is near the end stages of beta-testing

Loki ported many games before they closed their doors last year.

Check the game forums here, the Linux Game List has been posted a few times :)
