I would like to multiplex two cable modems through my linux box. I have all the hardware and two activated cable modems 256k each.

Is there some multiplexing software that I need or does Linux 8.0 incorporate multiplexing and load balancing through two ethernet cards out to two cable modems in through one LAN nic?

I do not believe the firewall is enough however the firewall will have to be setup in conjunction with a multiplexing tool.

This is called "Port Aggregation"
I plan on doing this soon with an HP-UX 11 system and have all the docs for it...

BUT, I can't find much on a HOWTO with Linux. A Google search shows it's possible, but I can't find any info on "how"

Check with your network card vendor (I know they do need to be that same card model), they might have some info on how to do this with Linux. I know you can, just don't know how...

Thankks for the supportive reply:

I have found only that EQ1 within the kernal is the way to do it with serial as in dialup modems but am trying to translate it into cable modems. There are so many explanations out there but nothing that really explains how to do this on cable or dsl. I just hate reinventing the wheel but you can bet on me documenting my attempt if it is successful.

Thanks again!

not to sound mean or anything but there is no such thing as "Linux 8" the current stable version of Linux is 2.4.20 and the current development version is 2.5.something.

Ya Hayl, don't you remember all the discussions about how vendors can't distribute it as "Red Hat Linux" because then people would think it's an offical product and demand the full support from Red Hat (even though they only paid about $10 for the disks) :D
And this is a very general question, it doesn't matter what your running...
Just messing with you btw :p

We should make a sticky somewhere that says Linux version is really Red Hat, just repackaged :D

BadBrad, do you have any links for those modems? If I'm bored later I might want to read through them :)
