i'm not getting any sound in Tux Racer!

Does that game have sound?

Also, how can i improve the graphics in the game? like resolution etc.?? is that possible?

You need to open an editor on ~/.tuxracer/options, not execute ~/.tuxracer/options on its own. As for your sound issue, are you getting any relevant errors logged to the terminal that you're running tuxracer from?

A) Yes the game does have sound.
B) RHat 8 & 9 have given me the same problem...no sound. Not sure how to fix this though...

I've got the same problem. I am using Red Hat 9 right now, but I also had the same problem with 8.0. However the game worked fine with Red Hat 7.3.

To add to the problem, the game lags very much even with my new and elite hardware (p4 2.40 ghz, 512 mb ram, GeForce4 mx 440, blah blah...). H'm... I suppose the game needs some tuning.

its your display drivers. DON'T use the ones that come default with linux. download the new ones from www.nvidia.com

The developers of Tux Racer should be notified about this!

Not yet, but I might just try that today.

As far as 3D acceleration yes. But, I'm using the NVIDIA drivers, 3D is good, but still no sound. I'm going to get a download of the game from some place other than RedHat & see if that helps. Maybe the RedHat RPM is missing something?

I installed the latest NVIDIA drivers. That fixed the graphics acceleration problems. I am still looking for a way to get the sound working. If you find it before I do, please do post about it.

well on the redhat cd there is just one rpm while i have seen on this other place which consists of two tar.gz files. one is tuxracer and the other one is tuxracerdata. possibly redhat combined the two..but something tells me tuxracerdata contains the sound files. i tried to install them but i got an SDL error due to which it said that the game will run without sound and joystick support. hmmm...so maybe SDL has something to do with it...also check out their site for the files instead of the one with Redhat....
