Hey all, just trying to set up an ftp server between two linux boxes. I keep coming into problems. I set up my server via the directions given to me in red hat 8 bible, and then tried to log in through my laptop, and it gave me error 530, login incorrect. I used the username and password I had specified as a home user on my server. For some reason its not working. I plan on installing red Hat 9 when I get it tomorrow, so I'll be configuring FTP from scratch. If there are any good how to's out there that you folks know about, I would really appreciate hearing about them!

Ok this is something along these lines.

I understand how to setup about everything I need but FTP. I can set it up and getting it running but I have troubling setting permissions.

What I want is where I can log in and my upload/download/delete/rename my htdocs folder. But I just cant figure out how to set it up. Any info?

I am making it in this thread since its kinda on the lines of what was asked.

probably better if you start a new one - anyways. do a search on JL - there are at least 2 threads where I have previously explained how to set up jailed ftp accounts and permissions.

If you aren't trying to login to your ftp server as root, you'll probably need to add the username the ftpuser group.
