Hello,

I am a newby. I would like to give a try at Linux on my G4 Cube. But I don't wan't to have my Linux partition on my internal HDD. This because I share the computer.

I burned two distro : Mandrake and YellowDog. So far I have read, the installation provided are for internal HDD. So I was thinking of this solution, but I am not sure it is possible :

My idea :
Place the HDD I want to use inside the Cube. Perform the installation. Take the HDD and place it into my external firewire Case (witch is bootable).

Upon start up use the option key to choose the external drive as start up disk.

I already use this technique to boot form my external with OS9, but since I am not familiar with Linux, I am afraid Linux would work this way.

So before doing all this work (those who have Cube know you don't want to open it for nothing) I try to collect as much information as possible.
Thanks.

PS : Some more info on my configuration if you have any suggestion about Linux.

Cube G4 450Mhz/1,12Go Ram/40 GoHDD Seagate barracuda internal / 20 Go external Firewire (5Go partition apple free)

Thanks for the link.
It looks rather tricky for my poor knowledge.
Anyway I have other problems with installing Mandrake8.2.
I will try this later and give info...
