does anyone have the link for the winmodems-project? I need a RPM for my modem, but I didn't know I had one. (cheap bastards, my, MF I mean). Is there a detection-system for win-modems? Is there a Universal-driver(module, WE) for MAndrake 9.1? Please explain.
Other than that.
I like the new Mandrake 9.1 distro. It made my mxstream-conn. via planet work for me. For info. e-mail me.
In all other cases, mail me.

If you're wondering why no one answered your post for such a long amount of time, it's because of lack of information. When dealing with hardware, you need to provide very specific details about the brand and model. (As a side note, helpless and pathetic people seem to get a lot of help too. I don't compltetely know why though :))
To answer your other questions:
Yes, there is a script you can download to try and detect your modem. I believe it only tells you info about your modem though. It is called "scanmodem.gz".

As for a universal driver mod for ManDrake, I don't know. I don't use ManDrake. Sorry.
Hope I helped. Good Luck.

you probably won't be able to find an rpm, maybe a src.rpm
alot of the linmodem drivers out there work with several different linmodems, so even if you aren't quite sure which one to use, you'll probably figure it out after a few(<5) tries.
followed sepero's link, it's the first site.
not flaming here, but i guarantee your question has
been answered at least 15 times, not hard to find with
a quick search, and problems are best solved
on boards, not through email, so the next person
with your problem doesn't even have to ask.

I've watched the Win/Lin-modem issue for a number of years with a sense of bemused amazment.
As ridiculously dirt-cheap as Win-modems are, there really isn't the level of investment in the hardware that would justify the kind of trouble I've seen folks go through to support the $20.00-$40.00 device on Linux.
Toss the sucker in the trash (or sell it to someone who doesn't care) and get a good internal modem like the USRobotics 56K V.92 Performance Pro Modem - USR5610B:

...or a good external modem like the soon-to-be-released USRobotics 56K V.92 External FaxModem - USR5686E:

I actually WAS one of those people. I spent weeks trying to find a driver for a modem of mine, but there was none to be found.
Nowadays, forget about it. In a couple months I'm gonna be buying a new $2,000+ laptop. I've already decided which pcmcia modem I'm gonna buy for it too.(Even though the modem will cost $20, I'll be saving $200, because I won't need Windows)
P.S.
You're right, spreelanka. Questions about winmodems have been asked and answered many many times on this site already. I guess this is another one for the database...
