hi
I am a linux newbie.
how to configure my internal modem .Its Motorola SM65 PCI model.p3,Intel810E & 128 Mb ram are my system config details.
My system is has RHLinux 8.
I tried the following things earlier:

First I tried the path SystemTools>Network Manager
There I started network config and some comvo box with many details ...
There when I clicked the 'Activate' Button ,something went wrong .My mouse didnot move horizontally.I couldn't even logout.the only thing I could do was restart my PC.
this has happened 2 to 3 times .

Can any one suggest what to do?Are any drivers for Internal Modem for above config available?

"Damn why is configuring modem so difficult in RHLinux "

secondly somone told to use command 'minicom' in Terminal or what the shell prompt
there something like 'Internal Modem On/Off" flickered.

Can someone suggest a good step by step solution.

If it's actually an SM56, then you can install
http://hardware.redhat.com/hcl/files/sm56-85.1-10.i386.rpm
to get it working.
If you didn't transpose, and it's really an SM65 then, according to RedHat, you're outta luck, and will have to resort to:

You might just be better off with a true hardware ("controller-based") modem like this one:
