what software can i use in linux if i want to draw ER diagram ?

You can try using any of the following software:

1. Kivio (http://www.koffice.org/)
2) Dia. (http://www.lysator.liu.se/~alla/dia/)
3) KChart. (Can't remember the site)
4) xfig. (http://www.xfig.org)

These are all equivalents to Visio which I think is the program you use in Windows to do ER diagrams. If none of these suit you, then you can always use a graphics program like GIMP to create the diagrams :D
