Okay right now I have a copy of linux mandrake installed, which isn't working. I am fed up with mandrake and am thinking of transfering to lycoris. I am wondering how I should go about doing this. I could simply back up my windows partition, and then format the whole drive, but it proably could be simpler. Has anyone used the lycoris installer program? Does it include a partitioning tool? Does anyone know of a good, easy to use, windows based partitioning tool?

You don't have to back up your windows partition, if you install a linux and install a boot manager such as grub or lilo, it won't be hard to configure it to dual boot.
And as for Lycoris, I don't know :/

yeah I already have lilo set up, the issue is how do I errase mandrake from windows. If lycoris has partitioning software then thats okay. Basicly I want to know two things: does lycoris have partitioning/formating tools in the instalation, and does it have a boot manager. Also my (shared)fat32 partition is a bit messed up(something to to with logical block adressing). It works fine but annoys scan disk, so I may want to reformat anyway. I never can get partitioning right.

I don't know if Lycoris has a partition manager, I think so. Anyway, that dosn't matter..
If you have your Mandrake cd, you can boot with it, go to the install and change your partiton table, deleting your Mandrake's partition, and save changes.

I am far from being an expert but i have installed Lycoris before and yes it has a partitionning tool,i cannot remember whether it is parted or fdisk(for linux that is)...both tools are easy to use.

If you feel you have to reformat your drive for whatever reason,go ahead, install windows then lycoris......the easiest way for you since you asked advice about partitionning tools,if you can part with a bit of cash$$,about 60$us,get partition magic from powequest, read the manual and you will find out it is a good easy to use tool.

I have both the 6 and 8 version...only major difference version 8 recognizes linux ext3 file format..and you can always visit the lycoris website where they have a very friendly forum .......good luck:cool:

60$ is way too much, especially when I could use disk drak which I like just fine and is free. Oh and does lycoris have a boot manager, if not what will happen when I install lycoris and boot up.
