Hi. I'm running Redhat 8.0 on:

IBM Thinkpad T22
800MHz PIII
256MB RAM
10.1 GB HDD

The fan is constantly on. This *might* not be causing a problem but it is certainly concerning to hear it constantly on.

Is there anything i can install, power management wise that will help this?

Cheers,

Dave.

i've seen Dell laptops do the same thing. actually at one place i worked, they had to get new fans after like a week and some of the replacements died within a week or a day of being replaced - LOL :)

Thanks for all the responses so far.

first of all: How do i find out if ACPI is already compiled into my kernel?

Secondly & lastly: if not how do i go about it?

Cheers,

Dave.
