How do i check to make sure rh8 detected my dvd drive? When I put a cd into it its mounted as cdrom. Is there anyway I can find out if its actually detected as a dvd drive and if not how could i tell redhat it is one? thanks

I think I'm having the same problem. I have linux format magazine on cd and dvd. When I put in the cd it works fine. If i put in a DVD it will not recognize it.
Worked fine in mandrake 9.0. 9.1 it quit working. Also will not recognize the dvd in redhat 8 or 9
I have no idea why. anyone know how to fix this besides installing mandrake 9.0 again?

I'm running Red Hat 8 and my dvd-rom drive is loaded on my system as /mnt/cdrom also /dev/cdrom and my CD-R drive is loaded at /mnt/cdrom1 and /dev/cdrom1. I would suggest looking at your /mnt directory or /dev directory when loading a cd in. As for playing dvd's can't help you there. I suggest looking online for some dvd playing software. I'm not sure but Mplayer might be able to do it.

maybe 9.1 and the redhats don't have suport in the kernel for the UDF filesystem, if you've learned enough to be doing that then just compile in UDF support, if you have no clue what i'm on about then switch back to MDK 9.0
