Sound W/mandrake 9.0

Help!
I'm having sound problems with Mandrake 9.0
I managed to get the sound when the sytem starts up by editing the /etc/modules.conf file and pointing to the right driver but the CD sound is still not coming out... I checked the analog cable, it is there, the cdrom is properly mounted and the CD counter shows me that it is being played however no sound is still coming out... The volume is set to the max... Could it be a driver problem ? Any more ideas?!
Note: Everything works fine with windows XP

What are your hardware and software details? I think sound problems are the most common Mandrake 9.0 issues I've seen, and most of them seem to be from Dell. Are you running one of those, by any chance?

First, are you sure it's a CD-related issue? Can you play MP3s, for instance?

If you're using KDE, have you checked Kmix settings?

Thank y'all for your time... The sound is finally working operly! I was using the wrong mixer to pull it up!! Of course I had to point to the right driver too...I learned so much from y'all!
