To put a tech twist on this (since I thought the /dev/random policy was that all /dev/random threads had to be related to Linux/technology):

You could install Mandrake 9.1 on everyone's computer that you know and set them up to use KDE by default with the WinXP theme.
That way they'll be using Linux but think that they're actually using Windows, all the while wondering what has so bewitched their computer that it suddenly works perfectly.... :D

I do remember this one story of when ever someone sat in their chair, the evil guy would turn on their computer with wake on lan. You could do that over a period of a month and just make em go nutters :)

You can use an email spoofer to send an email to someone. The April Fool's possiblilites with this are endless.

how about just installing vnc on someone's machine and controlling it when they're trying to work. i mean just picture someone wondering why thier mouse and keyboard seems to want to fight with them....:p

some past pranks...

Replace the local speed demon tech's (the guy who always has to have the fastest pc in the building) motherboard with an old 386 board....

If you're a tech, go to a users PC and swap the mouse button settings so that a right click acts as a left click and vice versa... Then when they call you to fix thier mouse, you can show up and knowing the deal pretend it works perfectly fine. They won't notice that your really right clicking.... That will drive them nutz.

on a buddies PC, take a screen shot of his normal desktop.. Then put that screen shot as the desktop background. Then remove all the icons from the desktop. When he goes to use his PC, it will look normal but none of the icons will work because they're just an image on the background.

put vaseline on the earpiece of someones phone and then call them first thing in the morning.

after everyone from the office is gone, lower all the chairs in the office for short people and raise all the chairs for tall people.

Replace all the sound files on the users system with Simpsons sound bites and set the volume to maximum.

create a powerpoint slide show that rotates pictures of farm animals and continually anounces at high volume, "Dig me! I'm looking at PORN!!!!" Then set it to run at startup maximized in a loop. Make sure to disable the users mouse and keyboard as well so that they go nutz trying to kill the app...

Blow up a picture from the last office party of someone and place it on the milk carton in the office fridge...

Send flowers from one male employee to another... It's best if they sit just oposite of each other in the office.

for people you don't like...

Goto as many porn sites as possible and enter their email addresses in for the free newsletter...

scan in an article from the local police blotter and then using graphic software replace the accused's name with someone from the office. Then post the article by the water cooler. Just make sure the offense isn't something too bad.. Not obseving dog curbing laws is good..

install Linux on someone's windoze box and rip ALL the icons off their origional windoze setup and put em on the Linux desktop, especially the Internet Explorer icon for mozilla and use Mozilla's internet explorer skin  lol

On some mice, you can change the orientation so that when you move the mouse forward the pointer moves downward on the screen (reversed).... Sometimes a little fun to do, especially in combination with the switching of the buttons...

Well I sent the email to day. I work with some of the most unsavy computer users around.

After opening outlook on the first of the month (work in a MS enviroment). All must hit ctrl+alt_F4 to resyncronize local settings to the exchange server.

I am waiting for the screams about apps crashing all day.

Well, I did this one today. It worked perfectly, except......

that my dad was wicked pissed. Figures. Oh well, he got over it after a little while. After that happened, I fixed the icons on the desktop (I had set up the screenshot trick too) in hopes that no one else would start yelling at me again for pulling April Fools' Day pranks. :)

a fun variation on the desktop one is to leave most of the icons there on top of the pictures (works especially well in XP where icon's snap to position) but delete a couple shortcuts or move them to another safe folder. Then, occasionally switch which icons are there and which icon's are only the background to really frustrate people. This would work well with VNC so that when someone isn't paying attention to their computer you can change things quickly.

This is more of a computer lab prank(s) but they're not bad. First, on every computer switch the mouse/keyboard/monitor with the computer next to it.

Second, you could always do a magnet to the monitor trick, that could always be fun.

Heh, once at school I took magnet and hid it in my shirt sleeve. Then I commanded those around me to bow down as they were amazed at how I could magically change the colors on the monitor just by waving my hand across it.

Well, I actually didn't tell them to bow down, but I should've. ;)

in wondows chang the mouse pointer icon to be the hourglass. you'd be surprised how many dumb people there are that can't figure this out right away and think that their computer is hung.

Awsome dunscooper. Sounds like fun. Another fun thing to do is, if your computers at school or w/e run Windows, open command prompt and just type anything. It doesn't even need to do anything, just anything. Teachers get very scared when seeing things they don't have an understanding of. Another time, i was typing in the address to my folder on our school server so i could open something, and the person next to me saw and said "Oh my god, are you like, hacking the school!!??" lol, good times.

That's one of my favorites. I did that to a guy at work, and drove him nuts. :D
The other good one I pulled on him was to go into his settings and change his mouse from right-handed to left-handed.
