I used the upgrade on My laptop and it when smoothly

my friend, who will be refered to as Dan, performed the upgarde and it completely messed up his install, he can't log in his window managers have dispeared after a while (they were there at 1st reboot after install) and shutdown/logout hangs his computer completely.

he is now going to do a full install of MDK9.1 to see if it goes ok.

first impressions: EXTREMELY Disapointed, another friend also ran in to exactly the same probelms with another laptop.

has anybody else had a bad experiance yet?

I put it on my laptop last night, not bad but there are some major problems...

The Auto partition is brain dead during install. When I let it do it for me on my 2GB drive, it gave almost 800mb to /boot 1100mb or so to / and the rest to swap...and wouldn't let me go back or view changes before being accepted, I had to reboot and start over.

The one that bothers me the most is a lack of support for the Linksys WPC-11 card "out of the box". With Red Hat 8 and even the last beta I was able to select and enable this card with no problems. I spent 3 hours messing with DrakConnect only to find out that wireless-tools was not loaded, but after loading it I still had the same problem.
It sees the card and selects the proper driver, but refuses to set it up...

I'm taking the brute force method now and manually editiing all the network files, hoping that I don't need any other software because it doesn't have internet until this card works...

But it sure does look nice :)
I always liked how Mandrake makes roots background red in the GUI

So does SUSE, actually the root background in suse is very red, with bombs on it.

I like the new mandrake, better than 9.0 imo.

Do I read you guys correctly in terms that you were beginning with a fresh install when seting up Mandrake 9.1? I run 9.0 and plan to buy the 9.1 CDs to update my distro. Will that save me from problems like you encountered as e.g. my harddrive already is partitioned, etc?

In other words, shall I switch from 9.0 to 9.1 or shall I betetr keep my current distro?

9.1 didnt like me. I went back to 9.0. Although I did try RH 8 for a while and again went back to Mandrake 9.
