heh, don't get me wrong, Im an american, and im proud, but linux wasn't created in the US, and people shouldn't use it to represent the United States. Linux isn't as popular in the US as it is in europe.

Not trying to make some deep correlation here...

just feeling patriotic AND I LOVE Linux ... I definetely dont wanna start a political thing (here at least)

However, I love the fact that LINUX GIVES ME THE FREEDOM to CHOOSE on an operating system!!! And that IS very American.

unlike MS or Apple.

i dont want to start a flame war, but i believe that anyone has the freedom to choose an os, whether it is linux, mac os, or windows. someone might choose to pay for an os

Linux is really more popular in Europe? Didn't know that, I only know about 4 or 5 people (not on the Internet, and other than myself) who use it.

But yeah, Linux certainly isn't communist. I don't know where people get that idea from. Someone on another forum kept saying I was a communist because I use Linux, but if you ask me, Microsoft is closer to communism than Linux.

I disagree/don't understand.

Linux does not give you the freedom to choose an operating system. You have that freedom on your own.

How do Apple or Microsoft "not give you freedom to choose your own OS"*? They don't say this is the only OS you can use and force you to not change. The whole Apple Switch ads are based on people exercising their right to choose their own OS. The only difference between Apple & MS OS's and Linux is the fact that Apple & MS charge you, does that make it not free to choose your own OS? You can choose to pay.

*I know I just proved that question, but I'm using your wording

PS - Maybe I interperated your statement wrong; I'm not trying to start a flame war with you, .. I just disagree ;)

Is the wallpaper under the GPL so the europeans here can make one for their own country?

Actually it's probablly public domain because it was posted to a public fourm without a license. Well there is case law about post to usenet without license IIRC.

Microsoft is closer to communism than Linux.

I dunno about that. Have you ever read the communist manifesto? Marx's original idea for a utopian society is people working for the best interest of the entire community. That sounds a whole hell of a lot more like linux than m$ to me.

Nice to see nationalist propaganda. I wonder what would've happened if say I made one, or some french/german guy did one of those wallpapers?

Oh well, I can always ignore that crap.........

MB[DK] -- Make one Bro! I wont say anything.... I just feel loyal to my country... I am sure I would do the same if I were from somewhere else -- you can disagree with your government and be proud of your home.

((DISCLAIMER: That did not mean to say that I am a dissenter, because I am not... -- but I dont despise those who are or think they are traitors-- they just believe something different than I do.....and since I am an ultra genius and an ultra good guy, that makes them Wrong. See how easy that is?))

M$ BEING COMMUNIST -- Marx may have written that he wanted everyone to prosper, but as we saw, that meant ONLY UNDER THE GOVERNMENTS control. And if you asked to be governed by another you would be kilt! Now that sounds like M$ if I ever heard it!!!!! -- I swear he (b.g.) is watching us on this forum, and is putting viruses in my computer because of my loyalty to Linux... I just know it!

Why are americans always focusing on communism like its a disease? It's all politics. Communism just happends to be a failed politic, where as democracy with a dash of socialism is really nice.

Now if you want to talk about evil, it's time for another "I loathe religion" thread.

Exactly. Communism on paper is a beautiful idea, way better than capitalism. It just so happens that when put into effect in large scales as a form of government it doesnt work.

You don't disagree - you are just completely confused! Ever since before 1980 you've had different choices of OS's, duh! That didn't change when Linux got here, and it's not likely to change in the near future.

Linux isn't just free software, it's FREEDOMWARE! Most significantly the freedom to change and manipulate the source code. Creating the kind of linux a person wants and needs according to _The Users_ Specifications, and not what Microsoft thinks your specifications should be.

And in configuration of software, being able to fix, edit, and tweak every last configurable thing in linux. So much so, that it has contributed to the loss of hair in many many individuals! Now that's FREEDOM!!!

Maybe it depends on the culture. Look at China, traditionally a very communal culture. I wouldnt be suprised if Communism lived long there. Communal lifestyles (not necesarilly communism) dominate how aboriginal peoples have traditionally lived.
