I'm not having problems with my Xserver or anything. Everything is fine. But I was just wondering how distros like Red Hat and Suse can have a GUI installation system, but then after installation on some computers, X will not work because the video card is unsupported. How did it draw the installation stuff to the screen in the first place? Maybe it's a dumb question, I don't know.

In a nutshell,

I think all video cards have the basic ability to drive the monitor by drawing text to the screen.

Then, when it comes to graphics, the card needs more enhanced abilities that work with the operating system/graphics system.
