This may seem like a minor problem but when I open certain programmes like kwrite and some graphic configuration tools, the window goes off either the edge or the bottom of the screen and the only way to get to the buttons such as "apply" or "cancel" is to right click on the header bar and select the move option, the trouble with this is that the "maximize, minimize and cose" buttons are then inaccessible and the window has to be terminated via the bottom task bar.

has anyone any idea how to configure the machine so that each window only opens within the area of the monitor screen.

Thanks for any help you can give.

You may want to change your screen resolution in the file: /etc/X11/XF86Config to something larger like 1024x768 or 1280x960.'
When that happens, try hitting CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE and see what happens.

I tried altering the screen resolution, it seemed to work when logged in as root but when I logged is as user the screen had reverted to its lower resolution, when I changed this using root priveleges there seemed to be no diference in the size of the programme windows. Thanks for the suggestion but have you any other ideas.
