Greetings, I am fairly comfortable with running Linux. Have been using RH since Apollo. Recently, I have been wanting to finally switch my home desktop from XP to RH8.
One thing that I have never really managed to perfect is the selection of packages while installing the distro. Obviously, not every package is needed nor wanted for a desktop system. I know that you can go through the install list of packages one by one and pick and choose what you want, and that is something that I have always done, some choices on install have worked better than others in my past install experiences. Now, before I go on, I do know that installations are up to personal preference, and what works for one person may not work for someone else.
I'm just curious to see if there is any reccomended package listings that can be used as a blueprint for installs? (other than what RH has included) Also, has anyone taken the time to document their preferred listing of packages so if they ever have the need to do another install (w/o something like kickstart) they can just do a custom cd install and then use their listing of packages.
I may have been too critical on wanting to do this, but I have had several times where I installed and was like, darn, I forget this, or why was this included. I also admit, that I am lazy and would much rather start with a better list of packages to install and then tweak from there.
Thanks for any replies
