I am running IceWM under Debian GNU/Linux (LibraNet 2.0). It doesn't seem to come with a screen saver.

Can I install a screen saver of my own? Of course, I can enter the "xscreensaver" command any time I want, but I want to be able to have the screen saver kick in after a certain amount of inactivity, not just when I specifically tell it to start displaying.

Does such a feature need to be built in to the window manager, like IceWM? (I don't think IceWM has such a feature.) Or can I put in a separate screen saver?

(Thank you to this forum for past help and suggestions with KDE.)

xscreensaver's fine, just execute "xscreensaver" when icewm loads and then "xscreensaver-demo" to configure it. You'd probably want to autostart it either in a .xinitrc file or with an icewm file but I'm not familier with icewm.

Wups, I figured it out. Every time I run xscreensaver, it pops up with a window asking if I want to do "Demo" or "Prefs" or "Exit". I didn't realize that if I didn't do anything, the window would go away and it would install into the background.

That answers my question and solves a big problem of mine. (I felt I couldn't use IceWM because there was no built-in screensaver.)

Now to figure out where in the world they put the X Windows config files so I can add the "xscreensaver &" command to it...
