I recently acquired a 2nd moniter to use with my laptop (free, so why not?), and was wondering if anyone can give me some insight on how I can extend my desktop onto that moniter. I am running an IBM Thinkpad T20, with Mandrake 9.0, and I usually use enlightenment. I have it up and running with both moniters displaying the same thing, but I want it to either be one large desktop where the mouse runs over to the other moniter, or it just shows another desktop workspace, and I can ctrl-alt-right or left arrow to it.
I did a search, and found a post mentioning something about a NHF about it, but I couldn't find anything in the library concerning 'dual moniters' or 'extending desktops'
Thanks in advance.

Check out the "Using Xinerama to MultiHead XFree86 V. 4.0+" HOWTO at http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Xinerama-HOWTO/.

This'll allow you to have a virtual desktop that spans both monitors. There're a couple of caveats, e.g. potential pitfalls with different resolutions on each screen and it's a lot nicer if the window manager is Xinerama-aware, but according to this post (http://www.realtimesoft.com/multimon/linux/mandrake7/) , Enlightenment has been Xinerama-aware since version 0.16.4-2.

So, as long as your version is equivalent to or newer than this, and you have XFree86 version 4 or greater, you should be all set.

Enjoy your second screen!
