I am a newbie but want to set up a vpn site. Using yast I installed the freeswan software and then tested it. It says that KLIPS is not installed in the kernal. This was pretty much a standard suse8.1 install. Grub is the boot manager. I am at a loss as to where to go from here. I would be thankfull for any help you can be.

did you get the way around?
I got the exact same problem as yours. Installation of freeswan was smooth, but then when I run service ipsec start, I got: (not exact)
#####
insmode: ipsec: no module by that name
modprobe: can't find ipsec
ipsec_setup: kernel appears to lack KLIPS
Pluto is not running (no "/var/run/pluto.ctl")
#####
What went wrong?

There are certain kernel parameters that need to compiled in for FreeSWAN to work. They had excellent documentation on their website. Have you followed all the steps listed in there ??

I don't get it, I have basically 3 Linux RedHat, 2 Psyche (laptop and school), and a Shrike (main pc), and all using same Freeswan package, freeswan-module-2.01_2.4.20_8-0.i386.rpm (and same version of userland).
How come I installed correctly on school and main pc without a hitch. And I only got that above error on my laptop?
