I am trying to install Red Hat 8 on a Compaq Proliant 1850R, dual processor, 3 9.1 gig scsi hard drives, lots of ram blah blah blah. I boot to the cd-rom, no problem, it loads the scsi driver, no problem. When it probes the video card and monitor, again no problems. But then it hangs and does nothing, I have to power the machine off. I have tried all of the extra start up commands, lowres, noprobe, skipddc, setting the resolution but the same thing occurs every time. Even when I include the noprobe command it still probes the video card and the monitor. Any thoughts? And yes I am a Linux newbie so be gentle.

How long are you giving it? I have RH installs look like they hung, but after an unbelievable amount of time it starts the GUI process for the install.

unbelievable is somewhere around 15-25 minutes...

Really! Maybe I will wait a bit then, I'm not terribly patient some times. Thanks for the quick responce, I'll just leave it alone and see what happens. I've never install Linux before, should I expect any other suprises?
