Hi, my name is Gino. I just installed SuSE 8.1 Personal on a Dell (Pentium 4, 1.8ghz, 256 mb ram, Dell E151FP Flat Panel, and Dell TrueMobile USB wireless adapter, with Windows XP-home installed). After using PartitionMagic I was able to install SuSE. I am unable to connect to the internet. I have tried various network card configurations, but I am still unable. The access point is an Airport base station, through which two OSX macs, and the XP connect successfully to the internet. I have even tried connecting the Dell directly by cable to the Airport base ethernet LAN connection. I called SuSE support and they said try the news groups. So does anyone know what I may have forgotten, or what I may have messed up, or what I may still need to do?

Please help, as I have spent a few days, and still am not connected.

Thanks 1.0E6,
Gino LaPointe

I did get quite a few hits with a G4L search for 'TrueMobile USB wireless' (http://www.google.com/linux?hl=en&lr=lang_en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=TrueMobile+USB+wireless&btnG=Google+Search) of which you will hopefully find guides/tutorials on configuring and what modules are required.

Is it because that I have not given sufficient data to describe this problem, or is it too difficult to solve, that many have read this, but only one person replied? If I cannot solve this problem, what else can I do, given the hardware that I have?
Thanks 1.0E6,

Dear
mdwatts,

I followed the links that you suggested. I looked for something for Linux, but Dell had only for Windows. I am a complete newbie and know very little about Linux, but I bought it because I do want to learn. Should the wireless network interface be checked for usb, and should I use managed rather than ad hoc? (Here is an Airport Base station for the access point, to which the broadband connection is attached. There are two OSX Macs and a XP Dell attached wirelessly. I have tried to also connect directly from the Dell via ethernet to the ethernet port on the Airport Basee station, but at bootup no interface name for the nic is found? The ethernet nic is a Broadcom440).
Please continue to help!
Thanks 1.0E6,
