Elric of Grans

G'Day,
I've been running Window Maker for a few weeks now, and have fiddled quite a bit, yet it still looks pretty well the same as every other screenie of WM setups. If you're interested, there's a screenie of what mine looks like so far here (http://www.geocities.com/elricofgrans/screenshot/desktop.html) . Windows is also on that page; I've not used that in a while really. It was only used for gaming, and I've hardly played anything other than NetHack of late.
Anywho, does anyone have any thoughts as to what else I could look into/consider? I do not really have any thoughts as to any particular direction I want to move, but I don't want it to look like just any other system either. I'm not afraid of getting my hands dirty if need be: I just want my system to look really different, yet still be functional.
If it matters, I'm running RH8.0. Tempted to try Debian one day, but a little worried about actually installing it, given its reputation; never actually SEEN a CD of it either. I don't use a Desktop any more: I never really used them, but didn't realise you did not have to start one up (only took me six years to work that one out ;) )
