Gnome Won't Work In Slackware 8.1

I tried to update my gnome 1.4 to version 2. X worked fine with 1.4. The error I get is it tells me that my screen can not be found.

u really wanna have gnome or is it cos i havent tried anything else?
make sure u tried fluxbox and waimea.

if u insist on using gnome try dropline gnome
its a special gnome for slackware.

I don't know how to fix your problem, but apparently installing Gnome 2 is a touchy process. I wasn't so brave as you are. Instead I used Dropline Gnome. Maybe you can undo what you've done and then go to Dropline (http://www.dropline.net/gnome) . They have a pretty cool installer there made especially to put Gnome 2.2 onto your Slackware 8.1.

P.S. Slackware 9.0 is at rc3. I'd expect the final release within weeks if not days. Gnome 2.2 is included.

i got a slackware and a mandrake machine.
cant wait to install slackware on the mandrake machine.
think i will wait until the 9.0 comes out.
