Install the cdrom, add a entry to your /etc/fstab for the correct device and create a mountpoint under /mnt if necessary. Search the JL forums for 'cdrom fstab' and you will find plenty of examples. trashthing 03-05-2003, 03:30 PM thanks. i thought i would have to do more than that. thanks again. OhLordy 03-05-2003, 03:53 PM How do I do it for a CDRW? or is this exactly the same? bandwidth_pig 03-05-2003, 08:41 PM Originally posted by OhLordy How do I do it for a CDRW? or is this exactly the same? No. It wouldn't be exactly the same because you will have to enable SCSI emulation, SCSI generic support, and SCSI CDROM support in order for the burner to work (via modules or kernel recompile). You will also have to edit /etc/fstab (as stated above) and if you are running Lilo you will have to edit /etc/lilo.conf. There is a real good help file in the library section on adding IDE CDRW drives which will do the trick. OhLordy 03-06-2003, 08:29 AM I've been following the lesson for setting up my CD writer but I've come accross a problem. I could not find a lilo.conf file so I added the line to lilo.conf.anaconda Then I typed lilo at the prompt and it says /etc/lilo.conf : no such file or directory. Do I have to create this file myself if it's not there? If so what do I need to put in it? Thanx Rob mdwatts 03-06-2003, 07:21 PM Could you be using Grub instead of Lilo? Search the JL forums for 'lilo.conf.anaconda' as another member had the same problem just a few days ago. DMR 03-07-2003, 06:24 AM mdwatts probably has it- you're using grub, not lilo. Grub's config file is (depending on distro) /boot/grub/grub.conf or /boot/grub/menu.lst. In the config file, add "hdx=ide-scsi" to the end of the "kernel" line. The "hdx" being the IDE device designation of your burner. OhLordy 03-07-2003, 12:40 PM Something funny is happening. It was /dev/hdd last time I checked but I just checked on my hardware browser again and it's saying its scd1. Is this right. Sorry if I'm being dumb. DMR 03-07-2003, 02:44 PM You may find it reported that way due to the SCSI emulation. justlinux.com
