I've just installed Red Hat 8 and already have a serious issue.

I have a generic "Conexant" PCI sound/modem combo card in my HP8775c. When I run the sound card detection utility it shows up as:

Vendor: Rockwell International
Model: Unknown device 127a:4310
Module: Unknown

When I run the 'sndconfig' command from the terminal as root I get this:

The Rockwell Intl. | Unknown device 127a:4310 is not supported.

I have PnP disabled in BIOS, I have the latest BIOS update for my machine, and have gotten all the updates (including the kernel update) from RHN.

So, as of now I have Linux with NO SOUND. So some help and experience in this matter would be sweet, thanks.

AFAIK the 'conexant' chipset is a soft/winmodem.

Have a look at www.linmodems.org as they will have drivers for the modem and hopefully a link for the soundcard drivers.

Awesome, just what I needed. I'm listening to my Dave Mattews & Tim Reynolds CD as we speak.

Thanks bro!
