"mplayer -vo x11 my_file.avi" or "mplayer -vo xvidix my_file.avi" work properly on my Red hat 8, but "mplayer -vo xv my_file.avi" crash with the error message "X11 error: BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied)"

Any idea why ???

Thanks

try as root, it might be a dev device that you don't have write access to.

The only thing i have ever used the vo option for is when playing mplayer in a terminal. mplayer -vo svga <file>.

I already ran everything as root - must be something else.

By the way, how do you run mplayer ? Not from a terminal window ???

Try gmplayer, the GUI version of mplayer. It loads the codecs automatically. You might have to get the skins and put them in the proper directory and also put a default font and put it in the mplayer fonts directory. It'll tell you with popups which files it needs in which directories.

When I run gmplayer, I get the message "Gdk-WARNING **: shmget failed: error 38 (Function not implemented)"

Any idea ?
