I have 8 boxes and plan to add 4 more. {home user (play with networking, FOLDING! browsing, ches...blah blah)} Right now I have 1 box running winblows 2000 and 7 on 98 I was toying with the idea of settingup some linux boxes (8ish) to do my folding using some diskless boards. I have to admit as a winblows user I am a little nervous about switching. I did install Linux on a box once but did not know what to do with it when I was done.
Any feedback, encouragement or what ever is needed and welcome.
Thanks,
Hawk

well, welcome to the OSS world.
Just start by loading an easy to build system eg Redhat and then load up your Folding app.
That should easily generate enough qns to keep you coming back here for a while.
That doesn't mean its difficult, just different to what you've been used to ;)
You'll get lots of help here and in the OSS world generally.
Have fun :)

OOS : no idea... ;)
OSS : Open Source Software/System (i think) encompasses linux and eg *BSD systems etc.

I've moved this to /dev/random...
Next time please include a subject that relates to the actual question you are asking as outlined in the Posting Guideline thread.

Mandrake is fine...
I allso started with mandrake, very good for newcommers...
DONT FORGET:
In the instalation proces don`t mess up the internet connection , alias DIAL UP or CABLE or SATTELITE or DSL.
You`ll need the info the comunity (linux users) provide, like HOW TO`s, TUTURALS, etc.

<laughs>
he wasn't short.
and it has nothing to do with being new to linux.
it has to do with reading the rules on how to post first.

no kidding, I've found many of you pro users to be very friendly and helpful... and it appears that almost all linux users/devolopers have a sense of humor... tkl=tikle... am I the only one that thinks that's funny?

The Posting Guidelines/Rules as there for obvious reasons...
Ensure everyone has a fair chance to have their questions answered.
Prevent non related subjects from being posted that wastes everyones time (some still have dialup connections).
Give suggestions on how to find the solution without having to first post the question.
etc. etc.
How could anyone possibly have a problem with that?

Actually I've found this a VERY friendly community for the newbie Hawk. I wish you luck with your linux ventures, and hope you'll come back here with any questions... the more posts, the better chance the rest of us will have when searching the forums ;-)
