In windows the menu button is called the start menu, because the word start is written on it. What do we call the menus underneath kde or gnome? gnome menu? kde menu? I just want to get the terminology correct.

KDE according to KDE.org

Application Starter
K Menu

GNOME according to gnome.org

Main Menu
Footprint

The Windows START button has always seem like a strange concept to me as you also use it to shutdown Windows. Personally I think it should be replaced, simply, with only the Windows [flag] logo.

The start menu is called start because it used to start most applications and when Windows is first run it has a little arrow pointing at it that is labelled "Click here to start" (or something like that).

What is nightwish and if you say that because of my location it is from something far more sophisticated.
It is from the introduction to a childrens program called Teletubbies

BTW After a little hacking of explorer.exe for Windows 98 I managed to change the Start button from saying "Start" to saying "STOP!". I was going to change the icon to an exclemation sign thing but I didnt have the right software.
