Test System:

*Tyan Tiger 2460MP
*(2) XP 20000s with L5 mod done for SMP enable
*512 DDR 2100
*18GB Quantum SCSI 160
*Yamaha 724f series sound
*Geforce 2MX
*10/100 NIC
*Sony 24x10x40x CDRW
*12x DVD cheap drive

md5sums good:

My Drake 9.1 RC1 bugs thus far:

1. booted in Sony drive: refused to format / as ext3 -crashed- reboot refused to format / as reiserfs -now ext3 works??? -okay

2. crashed at 7-minutes remianing

3. decided to boot in 12x DVD drive - installer worked flawless, no problems with formatting reiserfs or ext3 -completed install

4. logon screen garbled -a few frustrated clicks in the "ozone" get a readable logon dialog to surface -to my surprize, but no option to "root" -I log on as "george," su and run the kde logon tool and change a few things, theme, wallpaper, and unhide root -logout; okay the logon is readable now

5. an smp kernel was not installed -sigh- no problem I'll recompile.... where is the kernel source? oops! -not on my RC1 CDs.... it was late, I was getting frustrated... maybe I just couldn't find it... did they rename the kernel source rpm? -I guess there's no room on the download CDs - !!!hey!!! -there's an smp kernel image on the CD -it installs perfectly, modules and all, even writes lilo.conf and runs lilo -smp- works!

6. Nvidia driver - do ya think maybe the good folks at Mandrake would be considerate enough to compile the smp kernel with the same gcc version as comes with the distro? -no! So I run make with opion to ignore the cc mismatch and it starts to compile but segfaults -Grrrr! (at this point I'm even thinking WinXP is a better option... blasphemy! ..I repent...) -Drake 9.0 Nvidia rpms don't work even after copying the nvidia.o to the correct dir and setting execute permission -fails to insmod -unresolved symbols.... arrrgh! on to the next project

7. system will not power off by software, as with all other Linux I have tried on this mobo, but Drake 9.1 is the first that will accomplish a soft reboot, so that is a step in the right direction I guess.

* (not a bug) I install libdvdcss, mplayer, and a couple other files - DVD playback is flawless -a thing of beauty -this system is more stable than Drake 9.0 on this box -not a single X-crash or system lockup ...

* (gripe) Wow -KDE 3.x default theme is butt ugly! -looks just like WinXP --but that's not a bug -where the heck is kpackage and gnorpm? The only RPM tool (besides cli rpm) is this Mandrake thing.... tsk tsk disgusting! -oh, but the Drake rpm thing is better than the SuSE tool.

Did you report all to the Mandrake beta team?

The KDE 3.1 Keramik theme is butt 'nice'. :)

Yeah, with your nVidia drivers, you need to recompile them against the proper kernel-source package. Which Mandrake apparently "forgot" to include on their 9.1RC1 CDs.

You can always compile a kernel.org kernel...

--oops! yeah, I could get around the kernel thing but this is only a temporary test setup

keramic is a theme of beauty -KDE 3.1.2 is faster than KDE 3.0.4 (that I am using on production boxes) -but Mandrake's default KDE configuration is too much like XP's default "Crayola" theme

Give me Keramik and Mosfet Liquid and I'm quite happy.

Who needs anything else? :)
