Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : anyone add .ttf to rhat-8
i noticed Redhat-8 has changed the font situation, i found the TTF fonts in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts
i added a couple of .ttf files in there and restarted X and no joy, my TrueType fonts were not implemented like in older versions of redhat (7.x) and other distros this worked too...

For any apps written in GTK2, you can actually make a ~/.fonts directory, and copy the ttf files into that.
But, like I said it only works for GTK2 stuff (it's a Gnome 2 feature!). I haven't been able to add support for other programs. And I need it for Gimp!
just when i am getting Linux figured out, they change it on me  lol
so i need to make a .fonts directory in my home and go from there, OK will give it a try
yeppers it worked:D
and it was totally painles and easy as pie:cool:
Thanks!!!:)

Has RH 8 removed the KDE control center? I liked to use the KDE font installer
Redhat's KDE still has the control center, but i have not installed KDE with Redhat-8 using Gnome and ICEwm-1.2.6 that i found on the internet...
so i switch between using ICEwm and Gnome, maybe i will slam a blackbox rpm in it too for a third option...
i tryed KDE in Redhat-8 for a little while but it seems a little top-heavy so i nuked the disk partition and reinstalled with only Gnome, Nautilus is ok, atleast you can disable Nautilus from drawing the desktop and just put your favorite icons on the panel and use the menu for launching apps...
i still have a desk partition with Redhat7.1 & KDE-2.1.1 as the default, newer versions of KDE just don't seem light enough on thier toes for me
Gnome is starting to look really good, lets hope they continue to make a nice desktop...
here is news, Nautilus keeps crashing, and then the system monitor shows 100% CPU usage, i guess i will quit using Nautilus or Gnome alltogether, and stick with ICEwm and\or WindowMaker...
if Gnome stays stable i will run it without Natuilus, mc is plenty good for a file manager...
