Gentoo users: ADSL-START ; "Already a connection" ???????

I am using the latest version of Gentoo, i'm getting a weird error after getting my USB mouse properly installed. (using Realtech 8139 which i installed), when i ADSL-START (just as I normally do) It says "there is already a connection present" But I still have abosutely no internet connection!!! I am stumped...anyone have any ideas??? What shoudl be compiled in Kernel for this so I can double check...thanks
