I'm trying to install Smoothwall on a laptop without a CD Drive, to do this I need to get some sort of distro up and running and then configure smoothwall.

As I have no CD-ROM I am trying to boot from a floppy and then install the rest of the distro from a ftp or http server.

However I am having trouble getting the installation process for RH8.0 to recognise my PCMCIA net card (I have tried a XIRCOM Realport and 3Com Megahertz cards)

Can anybody recommend a way of tring to get this to work or recommend any other distro that will let me set up these NIC's and then install via ftp or http ?

If RH doesn't recognize your NIC, it will be difficult ;)

Do a google search for your card or check Red Hat's hardware compatibilty list and see what module your card uses. Then try a modprobe to get the card up with the correct module.

I have done this using Debian, they have a few disks that gets everything ready and then you can get all the packages via ftp...worked very well for me once
