grub hangs on startup

After installing RedHat 8.0 and selecting LILO as my loader my PC hangs after displaying the word GRUB. I can boot from a disk, any body has any idea why that happends? I tried to run lilo -v but it doesn't make the change and allways tries GRUB.

Did you have a previous distro/version installed that used Grub?

Where did you install Lilo... mbr or boot/root partition?

Could it be that Grub is still installed in the mbr and you have installed Lilo in the boot/root partition without first clearing out the mbr and setting boot/root as the active partition?

Strange, this, but then RedHat sometimes is a bit crazy. Could also be as mdwatts suggests: with GRUB or LILO in mbr it doesn't matter what partition you mark as active.
My suggestion is:
Boot up from floppy, remove both GRUB & LILO.
Run lilo again, after checking the /ect/lilo.conf
Also make sure the partition you boot from is the active one, and that lilo is installed there.
