i just moved from mandrake to RH 8.0 but i have this big problem with it lagging i have to use gnome cause KDE lags way to much i was fine with mandrake but everything is so slow on this, the specs are: 1.1 p3, 256 ram, trident Ai card, i know the card and moniter settings are right but why does it lag so damn mucH?

because Red Hat thinks everyone wants to run web server, ftp, among other things on their workstation.

take a look under the server menu and see if you can get rid of some services you don't need.

I think Hayl meant to say take a look under the Services menu & disable services you don't need like ftp & web services more to the point services like netfs, apmd echo & many others.

also make sure to run the up2date & make sure you have the latest packages & bug fixes for your system. you may also want to disable some GUI effects like animation & icon hovering. might I also suggest you give the distro I run I try. J.A.M.D Linux. It is based on RH 8.0 & uses the 8.0 installer but it is much less bloated & more geared towards a home desktop then RH 8.0 check out http://www.boycottmicrosoft.net/jamd/
