Hi everyone!

my first steps in the linux world were hard. after the first grapical display (The one with enter or f1) the display gets black and my three green status led's on the keyboard blinks. i waited for safety for 5 minutes but nothing happens. i got the tip to install the nvidea patch.pl because of my geforce 4 ti 4200 and my DVI TFT Neovo x-174. but this don't work to. after typing the command in the F2 command screen everything gets black too. i was able to install in text mode, but when i boot linux nothing happens and when i install enterprise linux i only arrive in the command line. xstart don't work. i got a message "no display" or so....

greetz and thx in advance

yours

Henning

I always have to add 'noapic' to the initial install prompt whenever I install my distro or it freezes with the led's flashing.

Hi mdwatts,

no chance, that did't work to... when i try the cd edition of knoppix my monitor stay black too, but the installation works for a few seconds. i must be something with my geforce. but why can't i start the patch.pl without a crash....

I thought that if I changed around my Linux that would help me out. I downloaded Red Hat linux 8, everything was going awsome, it recognized my monitors, my hardware, my optical mouse, it was going real smooth. Then It did its first boot, and froze before the GUI could start. I got some scrambled gibberish message that I couldnt translate--most likely some error that said I can go to dos, and that is it. I can log on, but after that, its just dos. When I had first installed it, I got a message conserning hardware being unplugged. My mouse wont work, printer, etc. Even tho they were fine during the install. linux wants me to die and then eat me.
