New RH8 install with SAMBA, GNOME into existing W2K Pro Peer network. Shares all work, both ways.

HPLJ4 on W2K Pro has extra 8MB RAM but no PS. The printer is installed into Linux as a SMB printer and everything I know how to check seems nominal.

ASCII test page prints fine after dumbing LJ4 driver down to 300dpi. PS test is awful. GIMP drivers are even worse.

Only top 40% of PS page even TRIES to print and it has interrupted borders, garbled font renditions. The best thing about the PS test page is the RedHat logo and that looks pretty cruddy at 300dpi.

Is there any way to make this thing work reasonably with Ghostscript or not? I really can't afford to go out and buy a PS printer for Linux.

Help would be sincerely appreciated.

TIA,
Wye

I hate printers. I just don't understand them. Sometimes they print, and sometimes they stop for no apparent reason. One will break and be working fine the next day w/ no tampering. I hate printers.
