Hi,
Im a real newbie and had problems with my first installation of Linux but now im ready to try again(I hope). I am running Windows ME and I am using partition magic 8.0 to resize my hard disk. I have a 38Gig hard disk and i was planning on resizing my windows partition to 12.9gig. What should I do with my free space I was gonna create a linux swap drive(is this right) but I dont know what to do with the other free space and what do I make the third partition. Any reply would be welcome.
Cheers

for my first install i resized my windows partion and then i just got the first boot disk and put it in the drive it brough up a partioning table which had my windows partion, fat32 showing it had use so much space avaible on the partion, and it showed another fat32 partion, the rest of my drive as empty, i then created a swap partion of about 512mb, and a root / partion of 10gig, after that i told it to use the rest of the space for /home etc as it saw fit it formatted the new partions then i installed everythin and it went fine

a search of the forum may bring back helpful information about partioning

hope that helps

To have more information on HD partitioning for a fist Linux installation, you may read the following article: http://www.uselinuxathome.com/ENpart.htm

The details are for Mandrake but the basics are the same for any distros...
