Drive detection hangup on MDL9

I have a new ECS Desknote XP. Mandreke linux 9 always hangs when "detecting drives". Tried to load MDL 8.2 and it aborts instellation before it gets to the graphical screen. I have loaded MDL 9 on my desk top successfully. I have looked around and found that this may be because it uses SIS IDE chips, and you my need to use the ide-pci install loader. Is this true? And if so can someone explain this to me.

Anything in the bios you could possibly enable/disable that would help with the installation?
