Getting Minimize/Maximize effects

I've been using EilEntity linux for a little while now, and I'm liking it a lot, except I'd still like to have a little more control over the desktop. So, I'm going back to Gentoo. However, in EvilE enlightenment has some nifty minimize/maximize effects, as well as translucent dragging and such. Is there any way I can get this under KDE? Or Gnome? And if so will it make use of the NVidia drivers I'll have installed.
