Hello,

My first post here so I dont know if I'm in the right place or not.

I've just installed a Radeon 9000 into my system running Mandrake 9.0. I've downloaded the drivers from the ATI site, and after some initial tweaking with sync. settings I've got my X running (fluxbox at current). This all works fine until I quit the X session and return to console which seems to be 'scrambled' or 'fragmented', I can happily start X again with no problems. If I reboot the system the console is fine until I start X ?

Any ideas, its not a massive problem but I'll like to see if theres is a way around it.

Cheers

Darren

Congratulations!

It seems that nVidia card owners are no longer the only people with this problem! So it isn't the nVidia drivers at all, like a LOT of people seem to think!

Unfortunately, no one that I know of knows how to fix it, with either the nVidia or the ATI drivers. :(

You can start by looking at /proc/fb, but if that file either doesn't exist, or has "vesa vga" as the only line in it, then the framebuffer driver isn't the problem. And if the framebuffer driver isn't the problem, I don't know what is. I assume www.google.com/linux didn't show anything relevant?

Cheers for the help,

Checked the frame buffer (/proc/fb) thats all ok (VESA VGA). Its just a small nagging problem, shame because everything else works really well.
